ABOUT ME

William Bitibiri Journalist - Sky Sports

From a young age, I found a passion for sports. Playing and speaking about a range of sports was something that I found myself doing almost daily during my childhood.

Growing up I also quickly realised I had a talent for writing and getting my ideas and feelings across in written word, so when I found out I could marry the two, becoming a sports journalist was a no-brainer.

Since coming to the decision that becoming a sports journalist was my goal, I decided to take it upon myself to gain vital experience to learn and prove my abilities. In January 2019 my love for football and Manchester United saw me create my own fan page on Instagram. There you will find me as the social media manager and admin behind all of the posts.

I then created a website for Down The Wings which sees me and a number of volunteer writers cover each game with previews, reviews and player ratings as well as fan opinion pieces and scout reports. In addition to my responsibilities on the Instagram page, I am the editor of Down The Wings, setting agendas for the tone and feel of what is written. Down The Wings now boasts over 100,000 followers on social media.

My work as a journalist has also seen me write for a number of other organisations such as 90min football, where I was an academy writer and The United Stand, the biggest Manchester United fan channel in the world.  I have even appeared on French Television discussing Paris St Germain on RMC Sport's PL Live.

From Summer 2021 to Spring 2022 I spent time learning from industry leaders as part of the BCOMS masterclass cohort. Through BCOMS, I spent days and Nike HQ and at Talksport, able to see what both organisations have to offer from behind the scenes.

BCOMS also provided me with opportunities to cover the Champions League, FA Cup, Premier League and League Cup from press boxes at Arsenal and Chelsea. I have also radio reported at the Etihad Stadium in a Premier League 2 game which tested my resolve in a high-scoring game. Please see my work for more.

From January 2022 to May 2023 BBC Radio 5 live Sport in a Freelance research role, I worked as part of the production team delivering Robbie Savage and Chris Sutton's 606 call-in show. My work in sports radio extended to talkSPORT where I was a Broadcast assistant and Times Radio where I appeared as a Football Correspondent.

In my current role, I am a football Journalist at Sky Sports.

For some, it's a burden to remain in a constant state of self-improvement, for me it has driven me to where I am today and will help me open or create more doors for myself in the future.
